System administration stuff
This is a main category for all the stuff I wrote related to the system and network administration.
Main server OS I'm using is CentOS and probably the newest version. This is currently CentOS 5.3. As new update or version is released I'll update pages to account for differences but this will take some time.
If you ask why CentOS and not some other OS/Linux distribution, then the reasons are following:
- I'm using RedHat and Fedora for almost 10 years now, so I know them the best.
- RHEL is the most supported distribution by vendors and, by extension, so is CentOS.
- In case it is necessary to convert some installation to RHEL, for whatever reason, it is easiest to do from CentOS than any other distribution.
- I'm NOT using Fedora for production servers because it's too fast target. Still, I use it as my desktop OS and for this purpose it's great.
That sad, I occasionally use other OS-es and Linux distributions, e.g. AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, though I never use Windows OS. This doesn't mean I'm against Windows and that I won't integrate it into some Unix environment. It only means I will not select it as a platform to run something.
