Science Fiction

I'm a keen reader or SF, fantasy and all the similarities... but let us start with some highlights from one very nice book that I've recently read:

There is a curse.
They say: May You Live in Interesting Times

" ...This at least was true. Rincewind could scream for mercy in nineteen languages, and just scream* in another fourty four.
*This is important. Inexperienced travellers might think that 'Aaargh!' is universal, but in Betrobi it means 'highly enyojable' and in Howondaland it means, variously, 'I would like to eat your foot', 'Your wife is a big hippo' and 'Hello, Thinks Mr. Purple Cat.' One particular tribe has a fearsome reputation for cruelty merely because prisoners appear, to them, to be shouting 'Quick! Extra boiling oil!' "

" -Oh yeah? And when were you ever in Ephebe?-
-Went bounty hunting there once.-
-Who for?-
-You, I think.-
-Hah! Did you find me?-
-Dunno. Nod your head and see if it falls off.- "

" -Et a man once,- mumbled Mad Hamish. -In a siege, it were.-
-You ate someone?- said Mr Saveloy, beckoning to the waiter.
-Just a leg.-
-That's terrible!-
-Not with mustard.- "

" -...Even if the seven of you killed as many as two hundred you'd be tired and there'd be fresh troops attacking you.-
-Oh, they'd be tired too,- said Cohen cheerfully.
-Why?-
-Because by then, to get to us, they'd have to be running uphill.- "

" The rain was coming down so fast that the drops were having to queue. "

Excerpts from Terry Pratchet's "Interesting Times"

You can see the list of approximetelly all the SF books I've had a pleasure to read. If you're interesting in some you haven't read, send me an e-mail for my impressions on it.
