Modern techniques of interacting with 3D objects

With the advancement of technology applications no longer receive input only via mouse and keyboard, which makes it necessary to develop portable applications for different platforms and differing types of devices with varying types of inputs.

The aim of the project was to study modern techniques of interaction with 3D objects and their application in industry. Particular emphasis was placed on touch gestures, voice commands and 3D gestures generated with a Leap Motion device.

Collaboration

This project was developed in cooperation with the Croatian AVL representation in Zagreb who proposed and promoted the problem studied in this project. AVL List GmbH Graz, financed research assistant as a industrial supervisor and also donated the windows touchpad.

We also thank Darian Škarica from divIT for loaning us 3 Leap Motion devices.

Technology

The project studied application interaction control using hand gestures with a Leap Motion device, voice commands and touch gestures in Unity Engine, Windows 8 and the Web environment, as well as selection optimization of parts of complex objects in a web environment.
